NB Liquor releases second-quarter results

FREDERICTON (GNB) – NB Liquor today released its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended Sept. 28, 2014.

Total sales for this second quarter were $111.9 million, up $3.3 million (three per cent) from the second quarter last year. Net earnings increased $2.2 million (4.7 per cent) to $48.5 million, for the same period.

"Weather-driven demand was high in the second quarter, positively affecting the beer and other beverages categories, which includes ciders and ready-to-drink beverages," said Brian Harriman, president and CEO of NB Liquor. "Successful promotions contributed to continued strong growth in the wine category.”

Key product sales trends for the second quarter compared to the same quarter last year:

  • Wine sales increased 7.1 per cent, up $1.5 million.
  • Spirit sales increased 1.2 per cent, up $ 300,000.
  • Beer sales increased 1.8 per cent, an increase of $1 million.
  • Other beverages increased 7.7 per cent, up $ 500,000.

“I am extremely pleased with the increase in net income over last year,” said Harriman. “Focusing on customer service and operating efficiently continue to be leading factors in producing a positive net income.”

NB Liquor is a provincial Crown corporation responsible for the purchase, importation, distribution, and retail activity of all alcoholic beverages in the province. It serves the public and licensees through 44 corporate retail outlets and 84 private agency store outlets. NB Liquor's product portfolio comprises more than 1,900 products, including wines, spirits, beers and other products, such as coolers and ready-to-drink products.

NB Liquor also released the expenses of the board of directors and of the president and CEO for the second quarter. The expenses are available online.
